Trains To and From Nanjing

It takes about 2 hours to get from Shanghai to Nanjing if you catch one of the D trains. Here is a good site for train times in China. Tickets can be purchased from kiosks all over the city at a 5 kuai surcharge or at the train station.

Buses in Nanjing

Municipal buses in Nanjing cost 1 kuai or 2 kuai. The more expensive have aircon or heat depending on the season. If you have one of those subway fast swipe cards you can use it on the buses too.

Taxis in Nanjing

The green taxis are 9 kuai for the first 3km in Nanjing. After that the window says it costs 2.40 per km.

Pizza in Nanjing

There are probably about a dozen foreign restaurants that serve pizza in Nanjing. So far, from what we tasted, Papa John's is the best. We've also tried Swede and Kraut, Bella Napoli, Jimmy's, Bill's scroll down for info about these restaurants.

Papa John's

Eat in or delivery. There are numerous Papa John's throughout the city. The one we use for delivery is in XinJieKou near Walmart. There is usually someone there who speaks a little English.

The number is: 8470-7272

According to the take out menu they gave us, pizzas run:

63-68 RMB for a 9"
87-97 RMB for a 12"
107-117 RMB for a 14"

You can get thin crust or regular. They also have a limited selection of pastas, soups and starters.

Swede and Kraut
On Tuesdays they offer a free Carlsberg draft with the purchase of a large pizza (about a 12"). Their prices for the large start at about 45 kuai. The sauce was a little weirdly sweet and there was way too much cheese. This Restaurant is near Nanjing University.

Bella Napoli
We had a pizza here a long time ago and don't remember very much about it but it had a good thin crust. The restaurant had way too many creepy looking girls working who watched us while we ate. This restaurant is a block west of Xin Jie Kou.

Jimmy's
The pizza here is okay, they deliver and usually there is someone answering the phones who speaks a little English. The sauce and everything else is really bland so make sure you order onions and some other flavorful toppings if you order from here. The pizza runs from 72-90 kuai for a 12" and 99-125 for a 16." They also have a lot of other food and sell pizza by the slice. Jimmy's address: 158 Han Zhong Rd. (East and a little North of Xinjiekou).

Phone: 025-8679-2599

Bill's
We don't actually know where this restaurant is located or if it is run by foreigners but they deliver pizza that doesn't taste entirely Chinese and not too expensive.

Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant

Delicious Indian food in Xinjiekou.

I recommend the chicken curry, a bowl of which runs about 40 kuai. The servings are generous but the rice is a little expensive at 10 kuai for a plate and does not come with the dishes. Unless you have a large appetite or a more lucrative job, you might want to consider sharing a serving with your date (you can always order more if you need it). If you are ordering take out or delivery you can even make your own rice.

The staff speaks English and the menu is in both English and Chinese with pictures. You can find their menu online.

They Offer:
  • Free Delivery
  • Lunch Set Menu
  • Party Arrangements
  • Indian Spices
Open from 10:30 AM - 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Tel: 86-25-84214123
